Numerical simulation of the thermal radiation and convective heat transfer characteristics of the second superheater in a coal-fired thermal power plant boiler

Superheaters are critical components in a coal-fired power plant because they sustain the highest tube wall (metal) temperature point boiler. The pressurized steam flowing superheater tubes is mainly heated via thermal radiation and convection from combustion gas radiant zone. To prevent bursting of caused by high-temperature creep, corrosion, fatigue for proper operation maintenance, accurately predicting complex heat transfer characteristics, estimating local temperature, assessing flux essential. In this study, computational fluid dynamics model boiler was developed using turbulence models. metal were evaluated calculating exchange between flows tubes. calculated values outlet matched measured equipment at plant, confirmed to be dominant outermost tubes, which receive maximum radiation, larger than those inner Therefore, determined under most severe conditions despite having higher mass flow rate steam. Additionally, fluxes on center lines panels due large gap adjacent bent part.
